When I
signed up for the Spanish/Surfing class in Sayulita I didn’t
know what I was getting. I didn’t know if the operation was
legitimate,
if the teachers were good, if the accommodations were nice, etc. But I
took a chance, and when I arrived in Sayulita I was not disappointed!
The accommodations were clean, modern, quiet, and attractive. The chef
(Yi-Yo) brought huge breakfasts to me every morning along with the
greeting “feliz navidad”.
The
spanish teacher (Lilianna) owns the local bookstore and loves
literature. She speaks slowly and clearly and always has fun activities
that makes the three hours go by enjoyably and far too quickly. The
surfing instructor was very knowledgeable and patient, and was always
concerned about the safety of myself and of those around me. The surf
is perfect for learning. And the director of the school (Puna) made
contact with me every day to make sure that everything was OK. To say
the least, the program went beyond my hopes and expectations.
At
the end of the week I felt more comfortable speaking Spanish and
more secure in my surfing. And, of course, much more relaxed with life
in general. This is a very good program, and Sayulita is a delightful
village. I highly recommend it!

Hi Puna, Well, well, well. I don't mind telling you that we had just
a great time! I wanted to thank you for putting together such a great
adventure...with all the components that worked for me!
Lucy was absolutely delightful and did a fantastic job of showing us
around and making us feel comfortable. Hard to imagine she's so young as
she's such an amazing person. What a wonderful representative she is for
you! And Nando was such fun. We enjoyed our surfing lessons so much...I
loved his sense of humor, his instruction, and, of course, his patience...I'm
sure we tested that a few times!
The
yoga was a more beautiful experience than I had even imagined.
What a lovely couple! And what a difference from the dark, cramped rooms I'm
usually practicing in. I already miss Jill and Daniel, and their
wonderful classes.
Getting
bumped from Bungalows Jaquiline turned out perfectly. We
really enjoyed Marina and Christophe at the Petit Hotel, and our accomodations
were extremely comfortable. We loved having the opportunity to spend time
with them. What a hard working couple! I'd be more than happy to stay with
them in the future...especially as they are working so hard to finish the
patio on the roof! What a great location to begin and end each day!
Oh,
and the zip line and massage were both huge successes. As I said,
you thought of everything!
I'm
already planning a return trip in Oct. with my husband and circle
of friends. We had intended to go to Playa del Carmen on the Gulf side,
but I really loved being part of a small community. It appears that there
will be about eight of us...Is that too many to pull off this great trip?
Think about it. I'm not sure if everyone will surf, but I'm sure we'll all
want to be at yoga!
I
have to tell you that a number of local entrepeneurs were very
curious about the package. Don't be surprised to learn that you have some
competition!
Anyway, thanks Puna, for such a great adventure! Great job!

Surfnspanish in SayulitaWithout knowing much about surfing, spanish or Sayulita, other than the information I had read on www.surfnspanish.com , I decided to give the school program a try, and signed up for two weeks of surf and spanish lessons. The school responded quickly to my request and gave me all the necessary help and information in prior to my arrival. I got the feeling that this was a very friendly and service minded school, but with a professional and efficient program, which turned out to be very true.
First of all, the owner of the school instantly took care of me, and made me realise that I really had come to the perfect place; a small town to enjoy and relax in, the tropical vacation getaway, and also a place to learn and experience new adventures. (I really recommend the horseback ride; it was a great way to see the area around Sayulita, and the horse owner and guide is a great guy!)
This program takes personalized service seriously, and you will always have a familiar face to attend to. The owner is looking out for you every day during the whole stay, and any change you may want to make in your program or any question you might have will be immediately taken care of.
The accommodation was incredible; a big sunny room with kitchen, living area and a nice and spacious bathroom, everything kept very clean and tidy every day.
The surfing lessons were held by professional surfers with many years of surfing and teaching experience. You work with the same instructor every day, and they never leave your side. You feel very safe at all times, and are guaranteed a good time during these lessons. The instructor sets up a plan according to your level, and efficiently works through it, always paying attention to your progress. Every day I had something new to work with, and all my questions were thoroughly answered. I really felt that I got the most out of every time in the water.
The spanish classes are being held at the local bookstore, owned by the teacher Lillyana. The inspiring atmosphere from this lovely little place gets you ready to study, and the hospitality and friendliness you feel from Lilly makes you feel right at home. 3 hours of classes feels like nothing with Lilly, she has such a great way of teaching you that you don’t even realize how much you actually have learned during a day of classes with her. She makes everything seem easy, and it actually is when she explains it. You will just love her!
I had a really wonderful time here, and highly recommend this program to others. If you have any questions I will be happy to answer them, just send a mail to ekj@hotmail.com

This surfing and Spanish program was perfect for me. I’ve taken part in a surf camp before, but it was with a group of women, and we were mostly isolated from the town. Unlike that group program, this small school offers a lot of independence and the chance to get to get to know the town a bit, all the while having someone there to watch out for you—two people, actually. I felt like I could turn to both Puna and Lilianna with any questions that came up for me.Working with Puna as the coordinator is like having a good friend in Sayulita who will set you up with a nice place to stay and with the best surfing and Spanish instructors. Lilianna, the Spanish instructor, owns the local bookstore, but don’t think that teaching is a hobby for her. She is a thorough and creative teacher—the perfect combination for really good lessons. Lilianna is an excellent instructor. In my mind, a more accurate title for the bookstore might be Sayulita Spanish School and Bookstore.
And the surfing lessons were terrific. Fernando was there to give tips on every part of surfing—from figuring out the easiest way to paddle out to finding the best waves to go after once out there, not to mention just getting up on the board. He also made sure I was aware of surfing etiquette. And when I got myself into a tight spot, he was right there to make sure I got into shore safely.
The room was perfect for me. I requested a quiet room on the second floor and this was it. And the arrangement to go to El Espresso for breakfast was great, I thought. Located just across from the hotel, I liked going there each morning for fruit and yogurt and a bagel, and the staff was very nice; I liked getting to know them a bit.
